Does anyone have an old, but operational, laptop they could donate to a good cause?

My fellow Rotarian and missionary, Lisa McCoy of Gravenhurst, is leaving on October 5th for six months in Cambodia. Among many projects, she will be teaching English to classes of girls. They need some laptops. And she is asking??? (I can pick them up and deliver them to Lisa.)

I addition, she is holding a Muskoka Talent Festival fundraiser next Saturday, September 26, at the Gravenhurst Opera House. A chance to see and hear Muskoka’s best. Come on out and enjoy.

Those of you who were at the MMUG meeting last night will remember my story of woe about trying to connect with my Mac to the newly launched Muskoka Internet Radio Station. Well it turns out I went through all that pain for nothing. The solution is as simple and elegant as it always is with the Mac. We can listen with iTunes. See David Groves instructions below thanks to Huntsville Online.

David Groves I love you!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you.

Here’s what David says:

If anyone is still having browser troubles on a Mac or PC you can easily listen to it in iTunes.
Windows Media Player and Winamp work as well.

You can find the Hunters Bay Radio steam on Shoutcast. Here is the link.

Click the “Tune in!” button on the search result (top two) and a box will pop up asking which format. Choose “I want to listen using my own media player”. This will download a .PLS file which you can open in a media player application. I listen to it through iTunes on my Mac. No need to download another browser or plugins. Shoutcast.com even tells you how many people are tuned in and listening.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
David Groves

Details to be discussed tonight.

Also–we’ll look at Snow Leopard and the new Hunters Bay internet radio station launched today in Muskoka.

See you tonight. Please don’t forget to bring a chair.

I forgot to include in my last note a link to the Ars Technica review of Snow Leopard.

This is a very complete review, so if you want more detail than the typical fluff pieces elsewhere, be sure to put aside a while to sit down and read it completely.

Thinking of upgrading to the new Snow Leopard 10.6 ?

Apparently Apple moved up the release date and caught many developers off guard. It’s worth a quick glance through this application compatibility chart to make sure your favourite programs will still work ok.

If you don’t know much about the new Snow Leopard release – this MacWorld article is a good place to start.

If you’ve upgraded, leave us a comment below and let us know what you think!
