A recent post on a perl programming email list got me onto [this blog post....](http://headrush.typepad.com/creating_passionate_users/2005/01/rubberducking_a.html) and they are absolutely right.
If you can explain a problem, in English (or your native language), out loud, you understand it better. This applies to a lot more than just computers. Try it out!

Hey all…
I’ve been waiting for this one for quite a while – if you’ve never seen google earth – one word – WOW. You can zoom in on almost any place (mostly in North America and major cities around the world at this point) in the world and it shows actual satelite pics. (like google maps on steroids).

It is pretty amazing.

You can download the beta here http://rapidshare.de/files/8860896/Google_Earth.zip.html – you’ll need to scroll to the bottom of the page to select free download, then enter a code that’s provided, wait for a bit and it will start.

Our December meeting was quite enjoyable! David gave us a real hands on intro to iMovie the best way possible. We made a movie right there on the spot. The reviews are somewhat mixed, but fun was had by all.

So, without further ado, we bring you the classic ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.

Download it here or watch it in streaming video.

Merry Christmas from us to you!

[This is one of my son's favourite programs](http://tuxpaint.sourceforge.net) – and it’s nice to see him doing something creative rather than just playing games.
It’s available for OSX, Windows and Linux, and it’s FREE – so if you have younger kids (or just are young at heart!) try it out today!
Installation is easy. Go to the [mac download area](http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/tuxpaint/download/macosx/) and download both the .dmg files. They should automount on your desktop (double click them if they don’t). The program .dmg has the Tux paint program and the Tux paint preferences program (optional – it doesn’t have a built in preferences). Just drag them into your Applications folder.
The stamp installation .dmg has a file labelled Tux Paint Stamps Installer. Double click on it (right where it is, you don’t have to move it) and choose ‘All Users’. (Read the attached documentation if you’re curious about the other options)
You’re done! Double click the Tux Paint program in your Applications folder and get creative :-)

Tux Paint is a drawing program for young children with sound effects, a
cartoon character, and fun ‘rubber stamp’/’stickerbook’ pictures. After
over a year of development, a new version of Tux Paint
is now available. Among the changes too
numerous to list here, Tux Paint has received a few new magic tools
(smudge, grass, bricks, cartoon, lighten, tint), start-up time and
memory usage were reduced, larger screen sizes are now supported, and
10 new translations were created (Albanian, Estonian, Gaelic, Galician,
Gronings, Kinyarwanda, Mexican Spanish, Swahili, Thai and Ukranian).
Many more stamps have been added, and the stamp collection has been
completely reorganized. For more, see the corresponding changelogs.
Enjoy!

Hi everyone:
As many of you are aware, our last meeting took place at Huntsville High School. Don McCormick led a terrific session on digital photography basics.
We decided at that time that a useful session just before Christmas would be a session on making videos using iMovie. David Harris has agreed to be our leader for that topic and requested that the meeting take place at macs@work so that we can have the support of our network and our data projector. (the school’s did leave much to be desired.) It should be a lot of fun and we might learn something too.
So the short and dirty scoop is:
* Next meeting: Tuesday, December 6, 7:30 to 9 ish.
* Where: The Digital Life Centre, macs@work, 131 Parkway Plaza, Hwy 60 #14
* What to bring: A folding chair
