I had never heard of this before, but, co-incidentally, I received an alert about this from a scam-warning service that I subscribe to. It seems that the attachment is a particularly bad computer “worm” that can disable your
security and firewall programs, open your PC to intruders who can steal your personal information, prevent you from getting
to security websites that could help you fix the problems, and blast out similar emails containing the worm to contacts in
your address book. It also has been appearing as a message from the FBI.

FYI — My Internet Provider is Muskoka.com. It supplies a virus buffer called Postini.
This weekend I received a series of e-mails from Postini advising me that I had mail from both the CIA and FBI. When I looked at them on Muskoka.com’s computer, not mine, they said I had accessed more than 30 illegal websites. It was “important“ that I answer their questions, listed in an attachment. I just deleted them, not opening the attachment, but the messages kept coming.
Muskoka.com had not heard of this. The OPP Scam Alert Centre in North Bay had not heard about this either and told me to try Googling the e-mail address for the CIA. This is what I found on the CIA Home Page:

Some members of the public have in the past few days received a bogus e-mail falsely attributed to CIA's Office of Public Affairs. CIA did not send that message. In fact, it does not send unsolicited e-mail to the general public, period. If you have gotten such a message, we strongly encourage you not to open the attachment, which contains a destructive virus.

As long as we are having fun doing comparisons – [Here's some comments from a linux user who bought a Mac mini when they first came out](http://www.bitrot.de/macswitch.html).
While I don’t agree 100% with all his comments, he’s got a lot of valid points. I know many of you don’t get my attraction for linux despite my admitted preference for the Apple GUI, this guy mentions a lot of my reasons.

Well, I haven’t posted forever (though I read it everyday)… so I thought I would share a bit of a recent conversation I had with a friend. On the one side is me, a “rabid” Mac user now… along with the more intelligent people on the planet… (he he) and on the other side of the conversation is a friend of mine who has both, started as an Apple developer ages ago and now works for one of Canada’s banks. In his home, the conversion back to Mac is well underway.

The biggest difference between Apple and Microsoft now, he contends, is that Apple is once again being run by a passionate geek, while Microsoft is now being run by a salesman. Wow… that is SO TRUE!

When was the last time Microsoft shipped a product? The last major release of Office (Oct. 21, 2003 for PC) was for the Mac (May 2004)… oh.. and of course the new XBox (a giant in computing prowess)… (I know… there was Server 2003 – but what about Longhorn?)

The result? Apple stock has gone consistently up for the past 4 years. Microsoft, fairly consistently down (though its rebounding).

Interesting thoughts huh?

I was suprised when I realized how many of you were still using Internet Explorer even though you have OS X and Safari. If you want proof that it’s time to switch take this news snippet (courtesy Robert X. Cringley – Infoworld) .
Microsoft has confirmed the news, reported here last
week, that MSN won’t display correctly inside Mac IE 5.2.3. Microsoft’s
advice? “If you are using Internet Explorer for Mac, we recommend that
you use another browser to have an optimal experience on MSN.” The
spokeshuman added that MSN works just fine in Safari, Netscape, or
Firefox.

At this month’s MMUG meeting, I advocated that we should all backup our iPhoto library, so we don’t accidentally lose it. When I got home, I tried to backup my library and the system would not let me do it.
It appears that iPhoto uses the same identification numbers for pictures in each Roll. It won’t let me copy the rolls because of this duplication.
I have searched iPhoto Help, but no luck. I searched Apple Help, and there seems to be one suggested solution: copy the Library from the Finder. But when I look at the Finder iPhoto Library
it contains all kinds of folders but doesn’t seem to be the iPhoto library.
Does anyone have a solution?
