Step One

Determine if your system folder is ok.
Double click on the icon for your harddrive.
You should be able to see a folder labelled ‘System Folder’.
Take a look at the following picture.

If your System Folder has a smiley face skip to step 3

Step Two

If your System folder doesn’t have the smiley face, double click on it to open it up.
There is a lot of stuff in here, it should look roughly like the picture below.

Look for the ‘System’ icon – it looks like a suitcase.
Drag it out onto the desktop.
Close the window.
Double click on your harddrive again so you can see the ‘System Folder’
Drag the ‘System’ suitcase from where you put it on the desktop,
back on top of the ‘System Folder’ and let go.

The folder should now have a ’smiley face’ on it.
If it doesn’t, you probably will have to reinstall your system software.

Step Three

Open the Startup Disk control panel.

Choose the icon that represents your harddrive.

Close all open windows.
Reboot.
Hopefully – the problem is solved!
